One particular sentence in this article that struck me "I’d come to see that America, had a much darker side than I’d ever truly accepted, even after coming of age in the 70s." I've thought many times that every thing I was taught and believed as a child aren't true - any longer. Along with that was a belief about who we were as a country as well. Hmmm!!
